Parker Posey has joined the cast of the New Group's revival of David Rabe's Hurlyburly. She will appear in the revival opposite previously announced stars Ethan Hawke, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Hamilton, Catherine Kellner and Wallace Shawn, according to a production spokesperson.
Posey, who attended the theater program at SUNY Purchase, appeared on Broadway in Taller Than a Dwarf, starred in the Los Angeles premiere of John Patrick Shanley's Four Dogs and a Bone and last year appeared off-Broadway in the Signature Theatre Company production of Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July. She is known for her movie career and was once named "Queen of Indies" by Time Magazine. Her film credits include The House of Yes, Suburbia, Waiting For Guffman, The Daytrippers, Party Girl, Sleep With Me, Dazed and Confused, You've Got Mail, Flirt, Henry Fool, Scream 3, Josie and the Pussycats, The Anniversary Party, The Sweetest Thing, Personal Velocity, A Mighty Wind and Laws of Attraction.
Set in the cocaine-and-sex-infused Hollywood Hills of the mid-1980s, Hurlyburly is Rabe's brutally comic reflection on the decade of decadence. This production will feature a newly revised script by the playwright and is being touted as the first New York production of the play since its Broadway run in 1984.
The show, directed by Scott Elliott, will begin previews at Theatre Row on January 11 in preparation for a January 27 opening. Its limited engagement is scheduled to run through March 5.
